Philip Morris launches e-cigarettes

According to the latest news posted in The Wall Street Journal, Philip Morris USA will release an electronic cigarette under the MarkTen brand in Indiana within two months.

MarkTen is a non reusable electric cigarette. However, but it can be used again by buying and using a separate battery recharging kit and extra cartridges. The electronic cigarette is estimated to be sold for $10.

Philip Morris is not one of the big American cigarette makers to create an e-cig to broaden the regular cigarette business, which has grow to be more difficult when confronted with tax jumps, smoking bans, health concerns and social judgment.

Two weeks ago, R.J. Reynolds Vapor Co., a part of Reynolds American, stated the company would begin selling its Vuse electronic cigarette to stores all over Colorado in June.

Vuse was created privately by R.J. Reynolds R&D specialists, and will be produced in the U.S.

In April 2010, Lorillard bought e-cigarette maker Blue Ecigs. It has broadened into over 70,000 stores.

Experts calculate revenue from e-cigarettes could increase this year to $1 billion. Some have even said consumption of e-cigarettes could exceed use of regular cigarettes within the next ten years. The Food and Drug Administration intends to claim regulatory authority over e-cigarettes in the near future.

Electronic cigarette maker Njoy said Monday it had increased $75 million in financing from investors including Napster founder and ex-Facebook president Sean Parker.
